James R. Baird

James R. Baird, Representative from Indiana's 4th District

Jim Baird (Republican Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Indiana's 4th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2019. His current term ends on January 3, 2025.

Baird (Republican Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Indiana's 4th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the 2024 election.

Baird was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2010. At the start of the 2017 legislative session, Baird served on the Agriculture and Rural Development, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety, and Ways and Means committees.

In his October 2017 announcement that he would seek the seat, Baird said that he was motivated by "a tremendous need for a common sense approach to fix the broken system in Washington." Baird's campaign website argued that "we have real challenges facing our country and the career politicians in Washington have failed the American people with all talk and no action. President Trump needs reinforcements to pass his America First agenda and drain the swamp. I will stand with the President and fight to end the political class’ grip on power in Washington."

Baird obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University and his doctorate from the University of Kentucky. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As of the 2018 election, Baird was the owner and operator of Baird Family Farms and a home healthcare agency. He had previously worked as an animal nutritionist at a feed manufacturer and as a livestock specialist at the Cooperative Extension Service.
