Sharice Davids, Representative from Kansas' 3rd District

Sharice Davids (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Kansas' 3rd Congressional District. She assumed office on January 3, 2019. Her current term ends on January 3, 2025.

Davids (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Kansas' 3rd Congressional District. She declared candidacy for the 2024 election.

She defeated the incumbent, Kevin Yoder (R), with 53.6 percent of the vote.

Davids was one of the first two Native American women to win election to the U.S. Congress in history. The other, Debra Haaland (D) in New Mexico, also won election in 2018. Davids was also the first LGBTQ Native American to be elected to the U.S. Congress.

Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, Davids worked as an attorney, served a White House fellowship during President Barack Obama's administration, and practiced mixed-martial arts with a 1-1 win/loss record in professional fights. She is a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation tribe.

Davids earned her associate degree in liberal arts from Johnson County Community College in 2003, her B.A. in business administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2007, and her J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2010.

Davids' career experience includes working as a White House Fellow in the Department of Transportation, as chair of the board of directors of Twelve Clans, Inc. for the Ho-Chunk Nation, as deputy director for the Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, as director of economic development at Red Cloud Indian School, as an associate at SNR Denton, and worked as of-counsel at Ceiba Legal.
