Before being elected to Congress, Allred played football in the National Football League (NFL) for the Tennessee Titans. After leaving the NFL, Allred earned a law degree and began practicing law. He then worked in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Obama administration.

Colin Allred was born and lives in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Hillcrest High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a J.D. from the University of California Berkeley School of Law. Allred’s career experience includes working as an undrafted free agent for the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League and an attorney at Perkins Coie law firm. He served as special assistant in the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of General Counsel.
