Matt Cartwright, Representative from Pennsylvania's 8th District

Matt Cartwright (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2019. His current term ends on January 3, 2025.

Cartwright (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the 2024 election.

Cartwright was first elected to Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional District in 2012. Prior to joining Congress, he worked as a lawyer with the firm Munley, Munley & Cartwright for 25 years.

At the start of the 116th Congress, Cartwright was one of four Democrats selected to lead the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. According to The Morning Call, this committee is responsible for developing messaging related to the agenda and positions of the Democratic Party, and is often used as a stepping stone to other leadership positions within the Democratic caucus.

Cartwright graduated from Hamilton College in 1983, and then he earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. While an undergraduate, he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and he met his future wife, Marion Munley. After law school, he practiced law in Philadelphia for several years before relocating to Scranton to work with his father-in-law's firm.
