Chris Van Hollen (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. Senate from Maryland. He assumed office on January 3, 2017. His current term ends on January 3, 2029.

During his time in the House, he chaired the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 2007 to 2011. Prior to his congressional career, Van Hollen served as a member of both the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland State Senate.
Van Hollen served as a superdelegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention. He supported Hillary Clinton.
Van Hollen was born in 1959 in Karachi, Pakistan, where his father worked as a foreign service officer. He earned his B.A. from Swarthmore College, his M.P.P. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and his J.D. from Georgetown Law School in 1982, 1985, and 1990, respectively. Prior to his political career, Van Hollen worked as an attorney.
