Derek Kilmer (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Washington's 6th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2013. His current term ends on January 3, 2025.
Kilmer (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Washington's 6th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the primary scheduled on August 6, 2024.
During his terms in Congress, Kilmer has been assigned to the Committee on Armed Services; the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology; and the Committee on Appropriations. For the 116th Congress (2019-2020), Kilmer was assigned to the Committee on Appropriations.
Kilmer was one of 17 superdelegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention from Washington. Kilmer supported Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
Kilmer served in the Washington House of Representatives from 2005 to 2007. He served in the Washington State Senate from 2007 to 2013.
Kilmer earned his certificate in American studies from Princeton University. He went on to earn his B.A. in public affairs from Princeton. He then received his M.A. in economic development policy followed by his Ph.D. in comparative social policy from the University of Oxford. Kilmer is a former business consultant for McKinsey and Company. He has also worked as a business retention manager for the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County.
Prior to his election to the United States House of Representatives, Kilmer served as a member of both the Washington State Senate and the Washington House of Representatives.
