David N. Cicilline, Representative from Rhode Island's 1st District

David N. Cicilline (Democratic Party) was a member of the U.S. House, representing Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2011. He left office on June 1, 2023.

Cicilline (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Cicilline resigned from the United States House of Representatives on June 1, 2023 to accept a job as CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.

He won re-election in 2018 with more than 66 percent of the vote.

Cicilline has been an elected public official since 1995, having previously served as mayor of Providence, Rhode Island and as a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives.

An attorney by profession, Cicilline graduated from Brown University and received a law degree from Georgetown. He worked as a public defender in the District of Columbia.

Cicilline was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 15, 1961. After graduating from Narragansett High School, Cicilline graduated from Brown University in 1983, and he later earned a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1986. Following law school, he worked as a public defender in the District of Columbia before returning to Rhode Island to practice law.
